errant_jane: (H&H Internet Forever)
I am trying to write more things right now. As, like, a daily exercise or whatever. Currently, however, both my [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema fic and my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang (which I'm trying my hardest to not think about right now) are out to beta. I'm doing fic-tac-toe with [livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion*, but I gave her the first move, so I can't work on that, either. I could poke at some other wips, but I think I want to do this instead (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] britomart_is):

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred however many words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

My reference post is here.

In other news, I am excited for SPN tomorrow, and still completely unspoiled about the last few episodes of the season (which, thank you awesome flist for all of your cut-tags!). I am sad that Justified is over for the season, because that show is pretty awesomecakes as well. When does White Collar come back?

I think we are perhaps a little spoiled now with shows that have summer seasons. Back in the day, we had to watch RERUNS! over the summer. Except for that one year 90201 had a summer season where Brenda went to Paris and [spoiler alert!] Kelly and Dylan hooked up. Ah, good times.

I've also been watching Psych via the Netflix streaming, and I'm kind of ridiculously in love with it now. I will make a sadface of sadness when I run out of episodes. And sometimes when I'm looking to fill up 20 minutes, I'll rewatch random episodes of 30 Rock (I haven't seen it at all this season! When does it come to Netflix?), which is always brilliant.

Okay, I think that's it for now. I'm glad tomorrow's Friday.

Oh, wait! That is not all! I will totally be buying this book when it comes out. Okay, NOW I'm done.

* This is a brilliant concept: I am forced to write, and I get fic from [livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion. Either way the game goes, I win. So... I win.

There are a bunch of different versions of this as far as I can tell. I think I hit the major points.

The tl;dr version, for those who don't want to read the whole thing, goes like this: My big bang was my best story for the year, in many different ways. And then I wrote some other stuff too.

Fanfic Meme: ALL THE STORIES! )

Overall Thoughts about aforementioned stories )
errant_jane: (coffee love)
Hi! I'm stealing this meme from [livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion:

If you were asked to pick one scene, one shot, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the things I've made and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?

I mean, mostly I write pretty silly stuff, but there are a few moments that I think are pretty good and I'm curious if they're the ones other people would pick.

Now I have to go write [livejournal.com profile] sundaysnuggles schmoop...
errant_jane: (Red Woman)
I am procrastinating! Sometimes I don't do great with deadlines. ANYWAY! A meme I think I could actually manage:

Give me a prompt and a pairing/character and I will give you one to five lines of the fic it's from.

It's kind of like writing, but not!

We have several inches of snow on the ground right now. The only reason I'm not completely belligerent about this is that I don't have anywhere to be right now. Still. Blech.

All the Buffy hoopla got me thinking about vampires (confessions: I'm interested to see what they do with it and I don't think Joss is God). The thing is, they're always relevant, right? What I want to know, internets, is: What is your vampire origin story? As in, what got you interested in vampires in the first place?

This is, of course, predicated on the assumption that everyone has a point in their lives where they were into vampires. If you never have been, IDK what to tell you.

I was thinking that my starting point was the Vampire Chronicles, BUT IT WASN'T! Upon further reflection, I realized what got me completely hooked was Christopher Pike's vampire series (The Last Vampire, Black Blood, Red Dice). I read The Last Vampire when I was fourteen and it was amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I actually would love to read the whole series again (I think I only read the first three) to see if it holds up to how I remember it. IIRC, the world-building was incredible, the vampire heroine was awesome and it had one of the most interesting vampire origin explanations I've read. (OF COURSE the stupid library doesn't have it. *grumps*)

So! *chinhands* Tell me, what was your first vampire love?
errant_jane: (BDS Happy Place)
OKAY HI!! So. I don't know about you guys, but I could use a little levity right about now. And I want my levity in the form of CUDDLES!! Ergo:

The SPN CuddleCommentFic Meme

RULES (Such as they are...)

1. Leave a prompt! Any pairing! Gen is also fine, so long as there are cuddles. Put the pairing in the subject line. If it's gen, say whether it's SPN or RPF. Examples:
subject: Jared & Jensen gen, Prompt: the Js go camping and share a tent and there is accidental cuddling. Or subject: Sam/Dean, Prompt: snowstorm.

2. Check out the prompts! Write me ridiculously schmoopy cuddle stories!! If cuddles lead to porn, that is ALSO acceptable. (Does that need to be said?) If it gets too long for comments and you want to post to your journal, leave a comment with the link, please! (Put your story or link as a reply to the prompt you're filling). I'll put up a masterlist for easy navigations.

3. PIMP IT!

errant_jane: (JDM No Words)
That WiP meme! Because all the cool kids are doing it!! Or something. I stole the putting notes on there from [livejournal.com profile] missyjack. I thought I had more WiPs than this, but apparently I don't. Huh. (Nothing from my Big Bang, though, because I think that's breaking the rules?)

Anyway, I think these fall into two categories of unfinishedness - I got distracted or I got to the dirty bits and punked out. I am woefully out of porn-writing practice. I'm working on it.

2 RPS, 2 SPN )

I guess that's all I actually have. Huh. Go me! I guess I'll bet back to it now. Oh how I wish the weekends were longer!

I have this weird, IDK, pinched something or other that keeps sending pains up the right side of my neck into my brain. DNW. I took some of my precious Tylenol 3, which better help, because I am almost out (SADFACE) and I hate to waste it. Not a fan of the stabby pain, though. Gotta say.
errant_jane: (Looking Down From Here)
I mentioned I was having some writing issues here (which are really more focus issues than anything else, I think) and [livejournal.com profile] dark_reaction suggested that I do a drabble prompt thing (it's a meme somewhere out there, right?). I like this idea today!

PROMPT ME, FL!! Leave me a prompt and I will try my very hardest to come up with a drabble for you. I have a long Monday at work ahead of me and an ipod full of new SPN related music. Lets make up some stories!

(Ugh. So don't want to work today. XP)

ETA: It's 50 degrees out right now. THAT'S IS MORE LIKE IT, TN!
errant_jane: (Golden Unicorn)
I was bored yesterday at work, so I decided to do the handwriting meme. (Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] kadiel_krieger remembered the questions for me!! \o/) I'm left-handed, so I don't actually write so much as print. It's not necessarily pretty, but I can generally manage to make it legible. Anyway, I wrote a drabble there too. I was bored?

1. Write your username.
2. Write your 2 favorite bands/groups of the moment.
3. Write something you ♥, aka lemme see your heart.
4. Write the name of your favorite person of all time.
5. Write the name of your recent favored person.
6. Tag 6 people to do this meme.

If you can't actually read that (which is fair):

Dean's first word was "car". He and the Impala go way back. His parents thought it was adorable the way he would point and clap and shout, "Car, car, car!" whenever they went somewhere. Dean knows because it's one of the few stories his dad tells later.

"Your first word was 'no'," Dean tells Sam. "Stubborn bastard from the start." It isn't strictly true, though 'no' was among the first. Sam took longer to start talking than he should have, but when he did, it was to say, "Dean." That's a story Dean never tells. It belongs only to him.

The sun is out for the third day in a row! I'm feeling very close to being a functional human again. Awesome!
errant_jane: (Mine?)
Today I spent nine hours at work putting labels on folders. The project is only 1/2 done. Nothing like feeling as though a poorly trained monkey could do your job. At least it gave me a chance to fantasize plot. Speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang FAQs sez I can't post my story to filtered posts. Ack ack! I shall have to come up with a Plan B.

In other news, Meme! Seen everywhere:

What's surprised you the most about me (if anything) since beginning to read my LJ (or when you met me IRL, for those who have)? Has anything about me been completely unexpected or have I always fit the picture of me you had in your head?

There's a Calvin & Hobbes comic strip which I cannot find at the moment, but the punchline goes something like this:

Calvin: I work better under pressure.

Hobbes: Actually, you work only under pressure.

Calvin: That way the work time is more miserable, but there's less of it.

It resonates. Example: I just spent half an hour looking for said comic strip rather than finishing up the thing I need to do which would take, oh, maybe half an hour if I just did it.

*facepalm*
errant_jane: (Modest)
My roommate and I were talking about the things we were doing to prepare for 2010. I was going to take a bath and shave (Hi, New Year! I greet you with hairless legs!) and we were talking about how 2009 could kindly suck it. Then I said, "That's assuming that I don't nick an artery and bleed out in the tub" and she was like, "Or that we aren't smothered by snot in our sleep"

Srsly, 2009 can SUCK IT!

True stories, this year started with our freezer in the basement breaking and me cleaning out all the thawed (and thoroughly rotten) food. And then our dryer broke. Within the first three days of the year. And then the glass on our front door when it was like sixteen degrees out. It went downhill from there. I AM OVER YOU, 2009! You are DEAD TO ME!!

I'm staying home tonight a)because I'm sick and b) to lessen my chances of being punched in the throat by 2009 in its flaily, vile death throes.

The good thing that happened was that I re-discovered my fannish love and y'all! Thus, fannish memes (seen pretty much everywhere):

Your main fandom of the year?
Supernatural, SHOW OF MY HEART!!!

Your favourite film watched this year?
I have no idea. (Sorry, Trekkies! It just never wooed me!)

Your favourite book read this year?
The Time Travelers Wife, maybe?

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
1372 Overton Park (a.k.a. The new Lucero album because it's awesome and everything a good rock album should be!)

Your favourite TV show of the year?
Um, Supernatural.

Your favourite LJ community of the year?
[livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu. Even though I crapped out halfway through the month, the whole thing was still a lot of fun.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
PODFIC! Seriously. No, seriously!!! I discovered it when I went home to visit my parents and traveling has been entirely more EPIC and AWESOME ever since. ♥

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
No surprise!JDM on S5 (SO FAR! I hold out hope...)

Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Sam? No, Dean. No, Sam. Dean? DAMMIT, THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS!!

Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Dani Reese. She's soooooooooooo AWESOME!!

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Wincon Prom, end of the night in which everyone was on the dance floor singing along to Carry On My Wayward Son. Coolest. Moment. Ever. Seriously, every time I hear that song, I get all misty-eyed thinking of it. WAY TO BE ENTIRELY AWESOME, FANDOM!!!

The most missed of your old fandoms?
They have all been eclipsed by Supernatural. Sad but true.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I seem to be somewhat fannishly monogamous. Nothing else has pinged me even remotely the way SPN did/has. I have no desire to stray at the moment.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
New episodes! SAMANDDEAN!!! WINCON!! IDK. Unicorns?

And the fanfic meme:

My best story of this year: Hmmm. I'm going to go with Though There's Nothing Left to Say. It was my first foray back into Wincest and I'm really, really pleased with how it turned out.

My most popular story of this year: Pretty sure that'd be Fandom is Srs Bznz. Ha! Okay, that story still amuses me.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Pretty much anything Gen. *g* But that's not unexpected. I think maybe specifically In These Losing Fights. It's angsty Dean! Who doesn't love that?

Most fun story to write: Again, I'm gonna go with Fandom is Srs Bznz. I had a good time plotting and world-building with that one. Oh! I also had fun with the pinch I did for the [livejournal.com profile] deancas_xmas, which I can't link to because it's still anonymous! Ha!

Story with the single sexiest moment: Ack! I have a hard time judging this one. Actually, I'm going to go with the last section to this part of my As-of-yet-untitled Misha series. *nods*

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Um, I guess maybe the one where I turned Misha into a unicorn on his birthday?

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: This is a weird question. I guess maybe So Far Gone in that I think it shifted (or maybe expanded) my perception of Castiel.

Hardest story to write: Just Give Up and Admit You're an Asshole, definitely. It sat in my WiP folder for months and months and months! And then when I got around to finishing it, it just kept going. IDEK.

Biggest Disappointment: The Storm Is Rolling In. *sigh* It was the first actual story I attempted to write after two-something years of not writing at all. I just didn't have the chops to pull it off the way I wanted.

Biggest Surprise: Just Give Up and Admit You're an Asshole. I don't even know where that one came from. I sad down and wrote the first 1000 or so words one day after work and then let it languish. I have a whole other WiP based off of that story that is Welling/Hartley.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: When It's Done. ♥ It reveals my soft Sam/Dean underbelly of schmoopy romantic...um, schmoopyness. I'm a Happily Ever After girl at heart, what can I say?

Fic-writing goals for 2010: Finish my As-of-yet-untitled Misha series. And the WiP I started before the holiday craziness came a bitch-slappin'. That's about it for now, I think.

Ha! Changing Channels is on. OH SHOW, HOW R U SO AWESOME?
errant_jane: (JDM No Words)
Yesterday I spent most of the day angry and feeling VERY SORRY for myself (fun fact: I do not deal well with feeling embarrassed. If I am reminded of a time when I embarrassed myself horribly, even if it's been awhile, it's as bad as if it just happened. Beware wounded Aries pride...). It happens sometimes.

But then I went to Happy Hour with my girls and one of them had TOTALLY AWESOME news to share and it was great!!!

Then I woke up at three a.m. feeling horrible and vommity. (fun fact #2: this is why I don't drink.)

So I'm feeling quite angry about having to work today. I would rather curl up in bed for another six hours or so. Bleh. But, hey! New show tonight!!

In the meantime, here's that meme going around (ganked from [livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion) because, well, because! (All my fic can be found in my master post):

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Annnnnnnnd, now I'm totally going to be late for work. POOR POOR ME!!! Whatever, it's Thursday.
errant_jane: (Pin-up Girl)
Oy! I had grummpity things happen whilst on my errand runnings today. Blah, people are sometimes lame. All I have left to accomplish this evening, however, is dinner and laundry. Hooray! So let's have a meme!

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.
