The stories I made up this year
Dec. 31st, 2010 05:50 pmThere are a bunch of different versions of this as far as I can tell. I think I hit the major points.

List all the fics you wrote this year, and the word count.

Where did you publish/archive your stories?
I started out on my lj, but this summer I made a fic community for my stories (when I remember to post to it):
storiesimakeup. All of my proper fics live there now (though I haven't taken down any I posted to my regular lj).
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I don't know that I had any real predictions. Hmmm.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Jared/Misha, I guess. That or Hyperbole and a Half and Lolcats fic. I don't think I could have predicted that.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
In Becoming Who We Are, most definitely. That's the most work I've put into a story, and I am overall absurdly pleased with the results.
Now, what's your most popular story?
Ha! Um, the same. I do think it's the best thing I've written this year, but by virtue of the challenge, it also reached a larger audience than it normally might have, so that helped.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I don't know! What's considered a risk? I was a little worried about having such a huge chunk of my big bang be Jensen/JDM (as well as having an OFC in there), but I don't know if that's a risk per se.
OH WAIT! Does blindfold count? I wrote two fills for blindfold this summer, which is different for me because I generally am fairly meh about writing porn. I learned that it is not as scary as I always try and make it out to be, though it's never going to be my favorite thing ever.
Challenges:
spn_j2_bigbang and
blindfold_spn are the only ones I can think of. I'm not so great with exchanges and stuff. Too much pressure.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year:
In Becoming Who We Are
My most popular story of this year:
Same
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Hmmm, I don't know that I have one, really. Which isn't to say that everything I wrote got an overwhelming response, but not everything I wrote deserved one either (I'm looking at you, Advent Fics!).
Maybe If You Don't Ask, You'll Never Know? Whether it's the nature of timestamps or bottom!Jared, the response wasn't quite what I was expecting, but my betas' responses were so awesome, it sort of balanced out.
Most fun story to write:
Ahahaha! I'm going to have to go with Unicorns, Dragons, and Affairs of the Heart here. It's so silly and ridic and over the top. NGL, I cracked myself up with that one.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
I hate to answer with IBWWA again, but yeah. I don't know anymore if this is coming from me or
rhythmsextion, but the scene when Jared and Jensen finally get together, and Jared's on the edge of the bed and Jensen is standing between his legs wearing nothing but a towel and Jared leans forward and kisses Jensen's belly...
I had that scene in mind from pretty much the start of the story and it played out pretty much exactly how I wanted it to.
Boy Built for Trouble would be my runner up, but IDK if that's actually sexy so much as dirty enough to be hot?
Story with the sweetest moment:
The Way It's Meant To Be - the entire story is schmoop and them being HOMG so in looooooooooove. With Christmas and puppies. It's a little bit ridiculous, I'll admit.
Story that made you cry:
The Bitter Taste of Smoke made me for reals cry. As well as the Dean Swan Song coda (3). Basically anything where Dean is without Sam. Don't judge me.
Hardest to write:
The second half of my Fic Advent Calender in December. Also, Boy Built for Trouble because, y'know. Porn.
Easiest to write:
IIRC, the Live Free or Twihard coda was a pretty quick and easy. In general, the codas are the easiest to write, as I'm either super inspired or not at all (in which case, I don't write one...)
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
I'm not sure, as an "even for me" thing. My brand of wrong tends to be, like, turning the characters into some sort of rodent or mythical creature, so I guess that would be Forbidden Love or Tryin' to Get a Nut
Most eye roll-worthy title:
The Storm Outside and the Fire Bright, because it's taken from a DMB song. But it WORKED and I HATE TITLES. Sometimes it takes me as long or longer to think of a title as it does to write the stupid story. Sometimes I use lyrics.
Best title:
Nobody Ever Expects the Catolution. VIVA LA CATOLUTION!!
Biggest Disappointment:
Well, some of the Fic Advent stories were less than stellar, it's true. As far as stories I worked really hard on, though, I don't have any I'm disappointed with.
Biggest Surprise:
As far as responses go, I was super surprised at how many comments Mr. April got (originally posted here). It's such a silly story!! But I was incredibly tickled that people liked it.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
IBWWA? I don't actually know how obviously telling it is, but there are little bits and pieces of me throughout the story. As far as straight-up id-fic goes, Boy Built for Trouble? Please see: i blame *you* for my daddy kink jdm tag. Utter hopeless romantic sap and daddy kink? Yeah, I think that about covers it...
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Yes. (Was there more to that question?)
My #1 fannish resolution is to be more faithful about responding to comments. I've been really sporadic about it this year for a variety of reasons which are really neither here nor there. I do also intend to answer some of the backlog on fics if nothing else. So if you receive a response to a comment you left eight months ago, you'll know why...
In all seriousness, I'm always completely tickled and pleased to hear that someone likes something I've written. It makes my day, and I'm going to try and be better about expressing that in the future. For right now, I want to say thank you all for reading, and for commenting, and for making my fannish experience such a positive one. ♥ I really and truly do appreciate it, even if it doesn't always appear that way.
Okay, I think that's all for now.
The tl;dr version, for those who don't want to read the whole thing, goes like this: My big bang was my best story for the year, in many different ways. And then I wrote some other stuff too.
