So, I was feeling particularly emo!kid today and I realized that I've been somewhat Grinch-like this holiday season.

To counteract my supreme grumpiness, I bring you recs of many flavors. Hmm, I always feel weird about recs. I sometimes have trouble articulating why I enjoy something. OH HAY, GUYS, HERE IS STUFF I LIKE, OKAY?

Fic Recs: These are without any real rhyme or reason. FYI.

You Hurt the Ones You Love by [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon - Sam/Dean, Set end of S4ish.

You know how sometimes when you're a fan of someone, you have a certain expectation of how good the stuff they produce is going to be? And then you read/watch/listen to something they did and the awesomeness of it still surprises you and you're all, "Holy shit"? It's like that. I've always loved Kassie's SPN fic and this is a perfect example of why.

If This is the End (We'll Go Down Swinging) by [livejournal.com profile] eveofnigh- Gen Ellen POV fic for 5x10.

This story made me cry. Short, but it packs a punch.

Leave a Message at the Tone by [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 - J2 AU in which Jared has the wrong number and adorableness ensues.

I join the rest of the world in being tickled as hell that she's writing fic again, y/y? This story made me SMILE SO MUCH. I'm smiling just thinking about it.

Make the Man by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone - Castiel/Dean Smith (During It's a Terrible Life)

Right, so I have weird parameters wrt Dean/Castiel fic (This is 100% a personal taste thing and not commentary on the ship in general). This story sold me completely, from beginning to end. I love Castiel here, and more than that, I believe him. Good stuff.

And one Very old school rec:

Pulse by [livejournal.com profile] slodwick - Early S1, sort of Wincest, sort of not.

I'm pretty sure this the first (or close enough to it) story I read in SPN. I know for sure it played a huge part in prompting me to write in SPN. For being written three episodes into the series, it holds up really well. ♥

Podfic:

Your Comment is Awaiting Moderation by [livejournal.com profile] latentfunction, read by [livejournal.com profile] sadcypress - Sam/Dean, post S4 – Sam starts a sex blog (I suck at summarizing other people's fics as much as I do my own. Don't hold that against the fic! It's awesome!)

See above re: Kassie's stories. It's something like that with [livejournal.com profile] sadcypress' podfic as well. I picked this story because it is the most recent one she's done and the story itself is a good showcase for how awesome her reading is. Not only is the cadence of her dialogue fantastic, the narration is spot on as well. It's Dean's POV, but there are excerpts from Sam's blog, so there's a bit of both POVs. The thing that makes her podfics amaaaaaaazing is that the voice is true to the characters throughout. There is a very distinct difference between Dean's POV and Sam's blogging. I am not nearly articulate enough to explain how very awesome this is. It's awesome, OKAY?

TV Shows:

Modern Family - I'm not even sure what made me decide to watch this, but I'm so glad I did. It's HILARIOUS. If you like things that are funny and awesome, you should watch this show.

Also, Scrubs: Interns has started and it totally and fully lives up to the original. I ♥ Scrubs liek whoa and I'm glad it's still going, somehow managing to be as awesomely hilarious as it always has been.

Songs:

Last, but not least, I have some musics for you!

Yeah, So What? by Cory Branan

This song never fails to make me smile. It's an endearing sort of, "Yeah, that happened, and now I'm totally going to own it" chagrined guy cockiness that makes me laugh and want to dance around the living room in a flaily punk rock manner. It is my happy song. Plus, how can you resist lyrics like:

You were smiling like a checkerboard
Shining like a shoe
I can't believe I'm wasting these lines on you
Alright, you caught me red-blooded
You wanna make something of it?

YOU CAN'T!

Love Song 11 by Cory Branan

This is generally a song I skip on the album, because I am more an upbeat sing-along sort of girl wrt music. But for whatever reason this week, this song has stuck with me. It is so beautiful and utterly heartbreaking in a way I can't quite pinpoint. There's something in every verse that makes me want to cry. I'm gonna go ahead and just post all the lyrics to this one:

I was secretly enamored
You were obviously hammered
I drove you home, said 'good-night'
It didn't feel right
You said "Tennessee just might come back to haunt you
You should stay with me tonight if you want to"

Don't hold your heartache against her boys, you know it's not her fault
Don't hold your heartache against her, it's not her fault
She ain't no woman - she's a waltz
And she walks into the room, my heart strikes up the band
When she walks into the room, my heart strikes up the band
Keeping time with each slight move of her hand

Moonlight on the attack
Misery has got her back

She'll sleep beside you on the floor
When you have six dollars to your name
She slept beside me on a hardwood floor
Six dollars to my name
I bought her a pillow and a rose and I cried in shame

I held her skirt like curtain, I held her heart like a newborn child
I held her skirt like curtain, her heart like a newborn baby child
Left her blue eye lazy, I left her green eye wild

Slow mood on the rise
Up a balcony of sighs

I held her skirt like curtain, I held her heart like a newborn child
I held her skirt like curtain, her heart like a stillborn baby child
Left her blue eye lazy, I left her green eye wild

Ah, I wish I had a good live version of this. The acoustic version of this is so fucking heartbreaking, I can't even... *hands* Also, I kind of love that he a) titles songs "Love Song #" and b) that the number he assigns them is absolutely meaningless. I wish I could get away with titling things thus.

Songs of the Season by Soltero

This is one of those songs that sounds cheerful and then you listen to what they're saying and you're like, "Wait, what?" IDK, it makes me smile. And think of Sam and Dean for some reason. Don't ask me why, I haven't the first clue.

Anyway, the opening lyrics (I'm a lyrics girl, I can't help it) are:

With a cigarette there on your lips
A Canadian penny in your pocket
And the songs of the season in the air tonight like buzzards

Apropos, no?

Hopefully there's something for everyone there. I'm getting less and less coherent now. Maybe I should just take my grump-ass to bed. I'm waaaaaaay behind on comments and emails and stuff, I know. Be patient with me? I will desperately try and get semi-caught up this weekend. I have it on my to-do list...

ETA: A twitter:

Do What I Tell You (I believe I got this originally from [livejournal.com profile] laulan?) Anyway, the best way I can think to sum up this Twitter is it's like Misha if he were a Llama who told you what to do. It's hilarious! My favorite tweet so far:

Pick up an electronic device and attempt to snuggle it. Put it back but occasionally give it special glances. Good.

Okay, I'm done for reals now.

Oh wow you recced my fic!! Which, admittedly, I did not notice as I first looked through your recs, more along the lines of: oh hey, that sounds familiar, at which point realization was like: *headdesk*

Anyway, I'm obviously sleep-deprived, so I'm going to head off to bed, but still, THANK YOU!! *hugs*

WELL YOU ARE A SUPER-SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE!!

Your icon represents one of my favorite moments in the history of time. Is there anything more endearing than Jared dancing the dance of ginormous dorkitude for Kbell whilst Jensen pretends he's not a party to any of it? I THINK NOT!

I would probably still love you even if you didn't write good stories, but your stories don't hurt, ngl. ♥

Whee, recs! I do love looking at other people's recs! I like that Twitter rec (if I weren't around people who would not only look at me weird but demand explanations and not be satisfied by 'because, well, it seemed like a good idea!' I would absolutely do so.) Also, I say naps are good. I just had a nap! And now I am continuing to get caught up on the flist.
