It is!! I seriously misread that, actually, because when Sam confessed to Bobby, I thought Dean was trying to decide whether to confess that he'd started it all. IIRC, he is the only one (besides the angels) that actually knows that.

I think the implication was that God saved him, but IDK for sure. I think it was Kassie I was talking with at the end of last season about the possibility of Castiel being God and not knowing it? Interesting, for sure. But I think as far as they showed, we're just supposed to assume that God saved him?

Ahh just my two uninvited cents, SPN makes me interact with people over the internet not just lurk.
Like OMG so much glee over this episode, and it was very much like a rollercoaster, and all over the place.
And oh it so hurt when dean broke with Samy, but can I be very much a Dean!girl and say that this was all because he feels incredibly guilty about breaking the first seal, so he thinks it's his fault and ultimately he will have to pay the price for it and tries to push Sam away so that it won't hurt him so much ...or something along that vein but I can't find the words for it because my brain is still bombarded by all I've seen in that crazy episode.
And it's so unfair that the true beliver the prophet found was a Sam girl.
