SPN 6x12 - Episode Reaction

SHOW!! Show is back! Yes, I'm late to the party, but I thought I'd throw in my $.02 of episode reactiony thoughts anyway.

Overall I thought the episode was AWESOME and HOMG I am so glad to have them back!!

Things I loved:

♥ SAM'S FACE!!!! Sam's little face of Sammyness was back full-force and it was so happy-making YAY!!

♥ Dean's corresponding "I HAVE SAM BACK!" face. It looked a lot like this :D :D :D :D :D every time Sam did something Sam-like and my heart did this: ♥ ♥ ♥ <- true stories

♥ Sam and Cas!! WHAT? I can't even—I actually went, "Naw!" at the hug!denial. Poor Cas! I really loved their whole scene together and I find their dynamic super fascinating. Which I suppose is another post for another time, but, hmm. There's so much there, with Castiel's genuine concern for Sam and the changing and evolving of Sam's faith over the course of the series. It makes me think of this story of Kassie's (gen, but with some Sam/Cas overtones). Um, I don't know that I really have much of a point, I've just always loved their scenes together.

♥ As I told kriari WRT the hug!denial, I choose to believe that after Castiel got done telling Sam everything, Sam was all, "Uh, I'll take that hug now." So then they hug and Sam is like, "Yeah. Somehow even more awkward than I was anticipating." And Castiel is like, "Yes. Like a cherub, but vastly more uncomfortable."

♥ Dean's reaction to finding out that Castiel was the one who told Sam everything. I lol'd for reals.

♥ DRAGONS!! Okay, I was a little bit disappoint that we didn't get to see actualfax ~dragons~ because dragons are awesome and stuff. But I thought it was fun and I'm interested to see where this new plotline goes. Oooh, what if it's, like, a twist on the Pandora myth or something? That'd be kinda awesome.

♥ Sam is back Sam is back Sam is back!! \o/

♥ For awesome, intelligent things about this, bree_black has some excellent meta on Sam and Dean and where they are now as a continuation of the progress they'd made in Swan Song.

Things I was a little meh on:

• We didn't get to see the dragons! :(

• The virgin thing. While I like that there's not a negative value assigned to sexual activity, it'd be awesome if that held true for sexual non-activity too. Someday, maybe. But it's a pretty standard trope for TV across the board. I also get irritated when they show high school band students wearing their marching uniforms to class or carrying around their instruments. THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN, WTF! Um, so, yeah. Obnoxious tropes are obnoxious, but not unexpected.

• The only characterization thing that gave me pause was Dean's willingness (bordering on eagerness) to leave a newly re-souled Sam alone, first at Bobby's and then when he goes to talk to the dragon lady. Like, I don't know, I don't know! I mean, I guess it could be a sign of their growth and maturity or whatever, but I feel like Dean would have at least a few days of not wanting Sam out of his sight now that he finally FINALLY has his brother back. If nothing else, to make sure he's not scratching at the wall or whatever. It's not a huge thing, I suppose, but I imagine Dean creepily watching Sam sleep with his :D of joy and the "brb, going to Cali" doesn't quite fit in there for me. But perhaps that's less characterization and more my protective-big-brother!Dean kink speaking. It's entirely possible.

These are, of course, minor qualms and I am happy happy happy like whoa to have Show back and BOYS and SAMANDDEAN YAY!!

Really, I think the most important thing we can take away from this episode is the fact that, now that we've had dragons, unicorns are surely not far behind, AMIRITE? UNICORNS FTMFW!!

I for one would enjoy if dragons and unicorns were LOCKED IN AN AGE-OLD BATTLE about virgins or something. Like, DRAGONS WANT TO EAT VIRGINS, UNICORNS MUST PROTECT THEM, THE BATTLE IS ENDLESS. Except that Supernatural is always really skeevy about virgins so it would probably come out creepy and weird BUT IN THEORY, YES PLZ.

YESSSSSS!!! That would be AWESOME!! As unicorn/dragon wars always are. OR OR OR!!! What if the purgatory!chick is actually THE MOTHER OF ALL UNICORNS!!! And the dragons resurrected her to bring forth the unicorn armies? I would also watch that plotline.

Dean just wanted the drive to California so that he could sit in the car grinning like an idiot saying "Sam's back! Yay! Yay! It's Sam. Sam, Sam, Sam. He's back! Sam," out loud, over and over again, without Sam catching on to the soulless thing or thinking Dean had gone crazy.

AHAHAHA OMG YES!!! POOR SAM! It could be a very special episode of Sam angst...

At first Sam thought he was dreaming, the unicorn standing in the clearing, plain as day. Before he could process it, move or speak, do anything other than stare, the creature turned and lifted his tail (it was most definitely a he) and let loose before galloping away.

"Did that just happen?" Sam finally asked.

Dean rubbed his hand over his face and walked over to the pile. "Well, one thing's for sure. That doesn't contain sunshine or rainbows."

With all that they'd been through, it seemed like a stupid thing to get upset about, but still.

"Sam?" Dean asked when he noticed Sam's expression.

"A unicorn just shit at us, Dean. What is my life?" He could feel his bottom lip pull out in a pout, but he was powerless to stop it.

Dean sighed and walked back to Sam, placing his hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, Sammy," he said, wearing his best Fucker's gonna pay expression.

It just went to prove once again that Dean was the only thing worth believing it.

I'm of the opinion that the mother is the mother of all monsters. They talked about her before. I'm hoping she's Echidna, but I'm pretty sure she's at least mother. (When we were watching this and the virgin came back up the volcano thing, I shouted "Echidna!" My dad thought I was crazy)

You know, this is the first example of dragons hoarding virgins that actually could make sense. They're always stealing virgins and locking them in towers and the such for safe keeping, but they can't do anything with them. These dragons? They actually could. Although I wasn't expecting them to toss one in a volcano. But, hey, show needed a virgin sacrifice, right?

True! Though maybe dragons are just terrible hoarders... Indeed! Virgin sacrifices are pretty standard for these sorts of things I hear. Though IDK why they'd need more than one. In case it didn't take the first time? Or maybe they are snacks for later.

I think this was the first episode of the season I really enjoyed. I know you don't want to hear that. I TRY NOT TO BE A HATER. I DO STILL HAVE LOVE IN MY HEART FOR THIS SHOW. I just didn't really enjoy the first half of the season's plot arc. ANYWAY. I am excited about this new twist and aside from the whole virgins thing, I was pleased mightily. Also, the girl who is playing... Mother of All is a hotass. I hope they keep her and she doesn't jump from virgin to virgin.

During this ep, I created a theory that the dragons took a humanoid form as a way to adapt from the hunting of their species 700 years ago. But after reading your post, I don’t care about that back story. I never knew how much I needed dragons, unicorns, Sam and Dean in my life until now. :)

Ohhh! That's a good point! I like the idea of them adapting! My only hope is that when the unicorns appear, they are not also in humanoid form. That would be tragic indeed! ;D

You actually paid attention to things that were not Sam & Dean related scenes? I commend you. I barely remembered the plot. Show sucks at plots anyways hence why they gave us a good dose of the Sam & Dean being Sam&Dean. If they continue this trend well into the end of the season, i will be just fine.

Plus, i totally think Sam asked for that hug too afterwards and Castiel was happy to oblige. He needed one too.

I thought Dean didn't want to be around Sam because he'd trip up with the lying thing. He headed off straight after Bobby said (approx) "He figured out you're lying yet?" I'm so glad that they sorted all that out - I hate it when people don't talk to each other. I actually get stressed! So I'm glad that they sorted it, AND that Sam understood why he was lied to.

Oh SHOW!!!!!!! It was so worth the wait! Sammy's face and Deano's face made my year, and the Sassy moment was GOLDEN. I am convinced unicorns cannot be far behind, I mean c'mon Sammy's been through enough he should at least get to see an unicorn for his pains!
