SPN 6x21 and 6x22 Reactions
May. 21st, 2011 12:09 pmI woke up this morning with an epic headache. Maybe it's a finale hangover.
I actually really liked the finale. I've only watched it once, so I don't have a lot of in-depth thoughts at the moment.
I liked the end of the Lisa and Ben storyline. Don't get me wrong, I didn't ever hate the storyline, but at this point, I don't think there's anywhere else they could've taken it. I liked that like everything else, it wasn't wrapped up in a neat tidy bow. It was messy and painful and heartbreaking, and morally suspect. (And I love that Sam called him on that, but backed down when Dean asked him to. Oh, Show! Oh, boys! ♥!!!)
I LOVED everything with Sam and his dreamscape. I loved him confronting the different parts of himself and then taking his own quickening. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!! (Except on the kinkmeme, where multiple Sams are always welcome...) And then, when he confronts tortured-in-hell!Sam, I love that his reasoning for needing to go back is not to save the world, or to make up for the things he's done, but that he can't leave Dean out there alone. And the fact that he's all, "You know why," when he says it. You know why, tortured-in-hell!Sam. And you know you can't argue with it. OH, SAM! I love you best when you're a little bit crazy.
Okay, ngl, I enjoy creeper-crazy Castiel more than a little. It's a lot like rolling around on the floor with mad fits of giggling glee. Castiel came across as delightfully creepy and obsessive. Part power-hungry, part, "I did it all for you, Dean. Everything I did, I did for you! NOW I AM GOD AND YOU HAVE TO LOVE ME OR I WILL END YOU!" And Dean's reaction was a perfect, "Yeah, no, sure. That's awesome, thanks, dude." *backs away slowly from the crazy* And then Sam's all, *SURPRISE!STABBITY*
And then everyone's all, "Hoh, shit. This isn't good."
I love Castiel most when he is Other. I am amused by buddy cop!Cas, but I find powerful celestial being!Cas more compelling, and I'll take compelling over lulzy any day.
I think one of SPN's biggest strengths is deeply flawed characters, who make bad decisions and big mistakes for the most sympathetic reasons. With John, with Sam, with Dean, and now with Castiel. You can see why they've made the choices they have. Even when they're bad choices, you can understand them*. The show is nothing but murky grey areas. It is a large part of why I enjoy it.
As for the ending, I was honestly kind of terrified that it would be another big Sam vs. Dean cliffhanger. That maybe it would be the return of Robo!Sam, or Sam still in a coma, or something else like that. I'm glad that it ended with the boys together this time. That makes me happyin my pants
I will hopefully have better, more coherent thoughts later.
*This is obviously a YMMV thing. I've always thought John was sympathetic, JDM's hotassedness aside, but I know this is not the case with everyone.

Date: 2011-05-21 07:29 pm (UTC)Creeper!Cas is the best, I love it when he gets all *angel*, it's so much more compelling to see such a powerful being with such human wants and needs being all DEAN, I NEED YOU TO LOVE ME.
I've been aflutter with the D/C for most of the day so I haven't really had a chance to discuss the other bits.
Dreamscape was awesome! I kind of wished that they'd brought back Jess instead of the bar girl but she was pretty awesome so no it wasn't really a mjor quibble. Sam confronting Robo!Sam was incredible, I was waiting for that soulless bastard to show up, sometimes I kinda miss the guy in a 'thank god you're not around kind of way'. :D

Date: 2011-05-21 07:37 pm (UTC)Yesss! It's so brilliant! And fantastically creepy in a horror genre classic sort of way. "You will love me, Dean." Meep!
Hee! I am quite tempted to write crazy creeper Cas now.
True, though I think that would've made it immediately obvious what was going on. I liked that the beginning was like, "Wait, what? OH NOES, what's going on???" Also, yeah, bar girl was pretty awesome. Robo!Sam was totally fun! And hot. I approve.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:11 pm (UTC)I love him so much, and the entire dreamscape was the perfect example of why. He's just so *Sam-like*
Now I want to watch the early seasons again, but I lent them out to a friend! *sobbity*

Awesome commentary. :)

Date: 2011-05-23 07:35 am (UTC)I do not venture out to other LJs often, and I do not believe or post about any of the statements you have attributed to me. Perhaps you have mistaken me for someone else? If so, I don't mind; at least I am sparing that other poor soul your viciousness.
